Expert rotator cuff surgery in Bristol. Our specialist shoulder surgeons offer arthroscopic and open repair techniques for rotator cuff tears of all sizes.
The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint, providing stability and enabling overhead movement. Rotator cuff tears are a common cause of shoulder pain and weakness, and may result from injury or gradual wear and tear.
Rotator cuff repair is a surgical procedure to reattach the torn tendon to the bone, restoring shoulder strength and function.
Your shoulder surgeon will examine your shoulder and test the strength of your rotator cuff muscles. An ultrasound scan or MRI is used to confirm the diagnosis and assess the size and location of the tear.
Many rotator cuff tears, particularly partial tears and degenerative tears in older patients, can be managed effectively with physiotherapy, activity modification, and steroid injections.
The majority of rotator cuff repairs are now performed arthroscopically. Small incisions are used to pass a camera and instruments into the shoulder, and the torn tendon is reattached to the bone using tiny anchors and sutures.
Larger or more complex tears may require an open surgical approach. Your surgeon will discuss the most appropriate technique for your specific tear.
Our specialist shoulder surgeons in Bristol have fellowship-level training in shoulder surgery and perform a high volume of rotator cuff repairs each year. We use the latest arthroscopic techniques to achieve the best possible outcomes.
